Cancer is the second most dreadful disease after ischemic heart disease and dangerous enough is the fact that its site of occurrence can be literally anywhere in the body! While until recently it was taken for granted that there is no cure for the deadly ailment, the good news is cancer can actually be prevented. Plant-based Diet

You may be surprised to know that you can actually check the development of cancer by changing your eating habits. You must know that the plant-based diet is the best cancer-preventing and fighting diet. All types of veggies, fruits, whole grains, nuts and beans come under the category of plant-based diet. On the other hand, processed food, which has been snatched off its nutrients by various procedures like cooking, peeling, frying, etc are the worst for cancer. 66% of your diet should be plant-based. Dairy products, meat and fish should not be more than 33%. The basic principle of cancer-fighting diet is to take the food in its most natural form, e.g. eating orange instead of orange juice, or oatmeal with raisins in place of oatmeal raisin cookie, etc.

Avoiding Meat

According to research it has been proven that vegetarians are fifty percent less prone to cancer than the non-vegetarians. Meat is brimmed with fat and has almost no fibers and other cancer-fighting elements. Moreover the fat it contains is saturated one, i.e. the unhealthiest. Depending upon its preparations, meat dish produces carcinogenic substances. One sigh of relief for meat-lovers is you need not keep away from meat, but you should minimize it, especially the red meat, though you should cut down processed meat like hotdogs, salami, sausages, etc. altogether. Leaner meat are the best and if they are organic, still better. Fish, turkey, chicken, etc. are leaner meats.

Cancer-fighting Foods

If your immune system is strong, better are the chances that it won’t allow any harmful intruders in your body, including cancer cells. Antioxidants are the best immunizers. Again veggies and fruits are the best suppliers of antioxidants like vitamin C, E, beta-carotene and selenium. Phytochemicals which are abundant in brightly colored veggies and fruits are next best cancer-fighters. You will be amazed by the fact that you can add taste to your food with spices like ginger, garlic, and curry leaves and at the same time prevent cancer with them. Add them to veggies and meat and enjoy a tasty and healthy meal. Take spices like these and basil, turmeric, coriander and rosemary in your diet regularly.

Quitting smoking and alcohol and taking up exercises regularly form an excellent step on the way to fight cancer.

Staying Away From Certain Substances

If you are working with asbestos-related environment, make sure that you are free from all its dust, before leaving from work.
